Steps, originally written for Darragh Morgan, was performed by Alice Rickards from the Sequoia duo in 2022. The piece features solo violin, inspired by Scottish traditional music, along with an electronic backing track, created from various processed violin samples. The piece is written to grant the performer a certain degree of freedom over the rhythms and timings of notes. The piece is focussed on intentional listening and the following of instinct, forming a bridge between the ways we learn to play folk music and classical music.
